Directory submission is a process of submitting URLs to various web directories either to do it manually or by automatic software. All directories submission form has an email column, which is compulsory in all cases. So you need an email ID, and domain email works better as the directory editor has confidence that the submission is genuine. Now the question is why it should be a separate valid email. The reason is:
- When you submit to website directories, there is most likely that your email will be spammed as thousands of submissions will exposé your Email ID.
- Some directories also publish your Email ID along with the listing, and more chance that your email will be in the spammer list.
- Whenever a site is submitted to the directory, in most cases, they first send an auto-responder for submission thanks, followed by other emails that will fill your Inbox.
- Some web directories send confirmation emails to verify the authentication of submission, and a separator account is helpful for the staff or outside submission company to handle such verification. Since it is not your business or personal email ID, you can give it to an outside submission company for work.
- Few Web directories require account creation and processes involving verification of email and account. A separate email account is helpful for the staff or submission company to handle such account creation without access to your personal or business email account.
- You need a valid email ID to receive communication from the directory editor regarding the approval or rejection of your site.
So you must have a separate valid email ID either of your domain or on some free email provider i.e., Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, etc. In the case of free email, the provider tried to have your domain in the email to assure editors that the submission is genuine.
